Welcome to ADHD Adults

This site is for adults with ADHD and it includes some basic information about ADHD, links to other sites about ADHD, links to resources for ADHD, and to online support groups.

Also there is a bit of background information on me  or you can check out my blog.

This is a personal page & will always be a work in progress. Please be aware that I am not a medical practitioner and I do not personally provide medical advice. However I may provide anecdotes about my personal experience in my blog. Any medical advice that you may find in any links accessed from this site should always be checked with your own medical practitioner. If you notice any broken links etc please let me know.

There are many descriptions of ADHD available on the Internet.
Click here for a brief overview by the American Psychiatric Association.

The key thing that I have learned from my research about ADHD is that it is not a psychiatric disorder. It is a neurological disorder, and one that can be treated with a variety of medications together with behavioral strategies. From my perspective taking medications to correct this type of disorder is no different to wearing spectacles to correct vision. However, there are many people who feel uncomfortable with the idea of taking drugs & who disagree with my viewpoint. There are many resources available on the internet that support both points of view (and many in between). This site provides links to a variety of other sites. Some of these express viewpoints that I do not necessarily agree with - if you do not care for an opinion on one of these sites please let them know (not me thanks ).

"According to Harvard Medical School, current research strongly suggests that ADHD is caused by a deficiency of Norepinephrine in the ascending reticular activating system, and it is thought that the stimulant medications, such as Ritalin, increase the levels of Norepinephrine in that part of the brain, as well as probably increasing dopamine levels in the frontal lobes."[ http://www.newideas.net/p0000627.htm]
